Editorial Policy & Review Methodology

Effective date: 15 October 2025
Last updated: 15 October 2025

At Unboxd.Tech, our mission is to deliver clear, practical tech reviews, news, and how‑tos that help readers make confident decisions. This page explains how our editorial process works and how we test products.

Our editorial principles

  • Independence. Advertisers, affiliates, and sponsors do not control our verdicts or ratings.
  • Accuracy. We verify facts, cite sources, and correct mistakes promptly (see Corrections & Updates).
  • Transparency. We disclose affiliate links and sponsorships.
  • Practical value. We prioritise hands‑on testing and real‑world advice over specs alone.

How we test

We focus on what matters day‑to‑day. For streaming devices, TVs, and related gear, typical tests include:

  • Setup & onboarding: time to first stream, account pairing, and app sign‑in.
  • Performance: UI responsiveness, app launch times, stability after extended use.
  • Video quality: behaviour with 4K, HDR10/Dolby Vision (when applicable), frame‑rate matching.
  • Audio: passthrough options, sync, and app‑by‑app quirks.
  • Networking: Wi‑Fi stability, Ethernet (where available).
  • Ecosystem: casting, assistant features, smart‑home integrations.
  • Value: long‑term updates, accessories, price vs. competition.

When relevant, we measure with repeatable scenarios (e.g., standard test clips, an identical network, and the same TV/AVR) to keep comparisons fair.

Ratings

We rate on a 1.0–10.0 scale with 0.1 steps. Category scores inform—but do not strictly average into—the overall rating (editor judgement applies). Typical categories include, but are not limited to:

  • Performance
  • Video quality
  • Audio & format support
  • Remote & usability
  • App ecosystem
  • Value for money

Review updates

Products change. When firmware or major app updates arrive, we may revisit and update reviews. Significant changes receive an Update note with a date so readers can see what changed.

Conflicts of interest

Editors disclose any potential conflicts (e.g., prior contract work) to leadership. If a conflict exists, that editor will not review or score the product.

Samples & sponsorships

  • We accept loan units for testing; acceptance does not guarantee coverage.
  • Review units may be returned or kept at our discretion; this does not affect our verdicts.
  • Sponsored content is labelled “Sponsored” and kept separate from reviews.
